Managing Director Nigerian Port Authority sacked

It has been reported that Nigerians incubent President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan sacked the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority Mallam Abubakar Abdullahi. It was said by the President's advisor on media and publicity, Mr. Reuben Abati during his speech. The president said that Bayero's appointment will take effect on Thursday. No reason was given for the termination of appointment.

Man shot three days to his wedding

The un-named man was shot dead on his way to Abuja on Monday 27th April, 2015 which was three days to his traditional wedding and five days to his white wedding. His friends sent the sad news. May his soul rest in peace.

Speaker Kebbi House of Representatives impeached

The speaker of Kebbi state house of representatives Hassan Shalla has been impeached for alleged breach of trust and embezzlement of his colleague's fund. In the absence of the speaker and his Deputy, the sitting where the speaker was removed, was taken over by a member Abubakar , representing Birnin-kebbi North constituency. 12 of the 24 members of the House were present at the sitting and supported the impeachment.

I regret celebrating my 40th birthday without a husband - Amaka Okere

Veteran actress and business woman, Amaka Okere recently celebrated her 40th birthday aniversary with her loved ones, but in an interview with Econium, the actress was not at all happy that she celebrated it without a husband. She said " The only thing that I feel is lacking is the fact that I am not in a man's house. I don't have any regrets. The only thing am not happy about is the fact that I celebrated my 40th birthday alone and not with my family" The mother of three further explained that she will be getting married later in the year but that she is not currently in a relationship.

21 People suspected dead in yobe attack

21 people suspected dead after the village named Bultaram in Gujba Local Gov't of Yobe State Today. Baba Nuhu, an official of the Local Government said that the victims (all male) went back to their village which they fled to see if they can get some food but were unfortunately ambushed and killed. "The men were stopped at Bultaram village by Gunmen that we believe are Boko haram, who shot them dead" Baba Nuhu said.

Gen Buhari signifies interest to probe alleged missing $20bn NNPC money

President-elect Gen. Buhari has signified interest to probe the alleged missing $20 billion from the coffers of the NNPC. Speaking with APC members from Adamawa state at the APC National headquarters in Abuja today April 26th, Gen Buhari queried the dismissal of Former CBN governor now Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II who raised alarm over the missing money. "I heard that some people have started returning money; I will not believe it until I go and see for myself. Imagine a situation where the former CBN governor who by God ‘s grace would later become the Emir of Kano raised an issue of missing billions of money, not in Naira but in Dollars, $20 billion. What happened, instead of investigating to know whether it was true that the money was missing or not, they simply found a reason to remove him. Boko haram siezes lake Chad from Nigerian army

Niger’s army is fighting to recapture an island in Lake Chad after it was seized by hundreds of Boko Haram militants aboard motorised canoes, army sources said on Sunday. Boko Haram, hardline Islamists who want to establish a caliphate in the region, attacked the island of Karamga at dawn on Saturday, their second attempt to capture it since February, army and government sources said. Lake Chad’s islands, which lie in dense swampland, are an ideal base for mounting surprise attacks on the countries bordering the lake: Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Nigeria. “There were many (Niger soldiers) dead on Saturday, considerably more than in the first attack,” said one of the army sources, referring to a battle in February in which seven Niger soldiers died.

Togo kicks off Election

The Togo citizens begin to cast their votes today, Saturday in a bid to elect their choice for the post of the President. The President will be determined by the 3.5 million people across 8,995 polling units. The election is between incubent President, Faure Gnassingbe who and other candidates. The election is between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm. President Gnassingbe won the election in 2005 and was re-elected for a second term in 2010 and is now seeking for a third term.

Other African leaders are Happy Jonathan lost - Obasanjo

Former President, Obasanjo is reported to be saying that Other African leaders are happy that President Goodluck Jonathan lost the Presidential elections. Obasanjo said this during his speech at the United States Institute of peace in Washingtob DC yesterday. " I have visited six Countries since the election. They are happy about the results. It is good for Africa and I believe it is good for the World". He then advised African leaders to learn from the Democracy practised in Nigeria and stop the habit of holding on to power by all means. He said that for Africa to survive, leaders must demonstrate statemanship.

Islamist fighters retake Border town from The Nigerian Army

Boko haram insurgents have forced hundreds of soldiers to flee the Marte, a border town in Nigeria, a Local officer reported on Friday. " The terrorists numbering up to 2,000 appeared from various directions on thursday and started a gun battle with the Nigerian army in Marte" said Imamu Habeeb, a local commubity leader. Local fighter Shehu dan Baiwa said that the more than 2,000 fighters had been armed with bimbs and tanks. " They used th weapons without restrains and succeded in killing several people". He said. A senior Millitary Official confirmed the attack on Marte but refused to say wether Boko haram had retaken, describing the Army's retreat as 'Strategic'.

Victor Moses wins Stoke's goal of the month award

Victor Moses has been awarded Stoke city's March goal of the month. The on-loan Chelsea winger won the award with his sbublime header against Everton from 15 yards out in March. He beat Mame diouf's effort against Crystal palace with 78% of the votes.

Atiku calls for replacement of INEC officials

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for the replacement of INEC officials that were implicated in the April 11 polls in Taraba. He said they should be replaced before the re-run of the election on April 25. He said their replacement will guarantee free and fair election. He also said the Inspector General of Police to replace Security personels with new ones from neighbouring States.

The chief defence staff (CDS), Air Marshal Alex Badeh has assured Nigerians that the Millitary will not take over Nigeria. " The era of millitary is gone forever and ever in this Country. In fact if there was Millitary rule I am not sure if I could have been here. We are the armed Forces of Nigeria and not that of any Political party and will not be subordinate to the Constituted authority"; Badeh said. Gen. President Jonathan visits former Defence Minister at his home

President Goodluck Jonathan paid a visit to the Former Minister of Defence, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma at his home today. The purpose of his visit is not made known, but according to the Presidential media aide, Reuben Abati, Gen.Danjuma praised President Jonathan for conceding defeat after the announcement of the presidential election's results. Gen. Danjuma said " The manner in which President Jonathan conceeded defeat is unAfrican, it's very important for Africa".

Bomb Factory Discovered in Enugu

A bomb factory is reported to have been discovered in Enugu. The Factory is reported to have produced the explosives that caused the explosion on March 28. This was disclosed in Abuja by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) yesterday before a closed door meeting with Police Officers to strategise for security during the April 11 Govenorship election. The Inspector also said that three suspects have been arrested regarding the incident.
