Borno State Gov't to pay WAEC fees




Borno state government is planning to pay the registration fees of the WAEC and NECO examinations for the Senior Secondary School Students, who are graduating later this year, the Commissioner for Education, Barrister Isa Buratai has said.
He said in order to reduce the hardship being experienced by parents of the studens, who are mostly farmers and their means of living has been shattered by insurgence
The Commissioner, who spoke during a courtesy call paid on him at his office by the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Borno state chapter, said parents may however be asked to pay 25% of the total cost of the registration fees

Regretting the decay of the education sector in the state, Buratai said arrangments were made to enable Senior Secondary School students to take extra lessons to prepare them for their final examination.
He also urged the visiting NUT members to organize psycho-socio workshops for teachers who were affected by the insurgency in their post of duties.
Chairman, NUT, Borno Branch, Comrade Bulama Abiso reiterated their plead with the state to reopen schools within the Maiduguri metropolis. He also appealled for improvement of teachers' welfare and implementation of the N18,000 minimum wage as well as annual increment for the primary school teachers across the 27 council areas of the state.
